Discover the World of Tetris Online

Ideated and developed by Alexey Pajitnov, and assisted by Vadim Gerasimov and Dmitry Pavlovsky, Tetris has been born in Russia around the year 1985. Initially developed as a counterpart of Alexey's another game Genetic Engineering, this game developed and grew to be significantly popular as a high-performance computer game. The name has been extracted from a Greek word called 'tetra' meaning 'four.' Developed primarily as a computer game, this type of game is widely played on mobile phone devices as well. However, the excitement of this game can be best experienced when played online.

Tetris is primarily a computer puzzle game, whereby different shapes, made of four squares, will be falling down the well. The player simply has to get hold of these falling pieces, moving them right or left, to sequence them on top of other pieces to create a line of squares from one edge to the other. On making such line, the player will win points, and the line will dissolve will all the other pieces moving one square down. The player should aim at keeping the well as much empty as possible, making more solid lines out of the falling squares. As the player moves up the levels, the pieces will start falling faster making it difficult for him to collect them on time and arrange them sequentially. The game will end when the well is completely filled with the squares.

To describe it more comprehensively, a random sequence of different shapes, each comprising of four square blocks, will fall down the playing area or the well. The aim of Tetris is in manipulating these square blocks with the goal of developing a horizontal solid line without any gap. When such a horizontal line is created from one edge to another, it will disappear, and all the blocks on top of it will fall down to fill up the gap. The game ends on the situation of "top-out," whereby the square stacks reach at the top of the play field, disabling any new tetromino to enter. However, this "top-out" concept can be different for different versions.

There are 7 one-sided square blocks, or tetrominoes, in this game, and are referred to as I, J, L, O, S, T, and Z. All these square stacks are capable of making double and single clears in Tetris. Additionally, I, J, and L are even capable of triple clears. However, only I has the efficiency of clearing four lines at a time only. Again, this may also vary on the basis of the compensation rules and rotation for specific implementations of this game. As such, it is important to follow the guidelines and instructions properly before you choose to play with any of the most popular versions.

The online version of this game has been significantly popular these days, and can be conveniently played without any hassles of downloading the same on your PC. Moreover, in certain cases, you can also enjoy the lucrative opportunity to play for free online.
